Hello!
As a writer and editor, and an educator with a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), I have a unique blend of skills. Writing for international corporations, editing the work of authors in a variety of genres, co-developing and directing a large graduate program in TESOL and Bilingual Ed, and teaching English language learners are just some of the ways I have used those skills.
My specialty as a writer is taking an abundance of content and synthesizing it into cohesive, clearly-written, impactful pieces, as well as finding the right language to bring an organization’s public message to life. From book reviews to web articles, website content to museum exhibit text, I am passionate about creating meaningful, accurate, and customized pieces for each organization or individual. I am always learning something new, which is the best part of my work.
As an editor, my focus is on retaining the voice and spirit of the writer while ensuring the text is accurate and professionally expressed. I strive to fully understand the content, purpose, and audience for each piece of writing that I edit, and ensure that, before it leaves my hands and goes out into the world, the language is as perfect as it can be, both in expressing the author’s intent and grammatically. I can no longer read anything without the editor part of my brain engaging.
Language is our most effective tool for communication. Finding and orchestrating the right words can be a challenge ... a challenge that I absolutely love.

Education
Obtaining a Master’s Degree in TESOL was a logical and practical next step after graduating from college as an English major with a minor in Russian language. Working towards and accomplishing that degree led me to many wonderful experiences and, eventually, to a career doing what I love best—writing and editing. Life is a winding road, and I probably wouldn’t have been offered my first job as a writer - working for a company based in The Hague in the Netherlands, whose sales people were from all over Western Europe but whose business language was American English - if I didn’t have that educational background. My degree in education and experience as a teacher and administrator taught me the importance of collaboration, individual points-of-view, and the power of language to connect people.
